Yep, HF, I think we had the same older brother experience...for me, I can say with confidence that I'd be posting about the same if I'd never seen them...seriously. For me, that is why I am always going on about the albums, the singing and the lyrics. For me, those things shine NONLIVE, if you follow...

This shows how diff I am perhaps than many here: I had maybe five "live" intense experiences with bands, and frankly, none were with the DEAD, BUT I did not end up worshipping those bands if that makes sense...other factors contributed to why they were so good or why I enjoyed it so much at the time.

One, for crying outloud, was an Outlaws/MTBand concert...should I really admit that?

Part of the answer is this: I love live music. I get fired-up anytime I get to see a band live. Not necessarily a great band either.

I occasionally go to a local bar on Friday afternoon and listen to the Pub Scouts. They are a rag-tag collection of local players who gather each Friday @ Duffy's Tavern to play Irish folk music. There's lots of socializing and many distractions, but I enjoy this experience intensely.

All that said. I never played football, but I watch it religiously and possess great knowledge of the sport. Me and Howard Cosell. I think you get the point.

Yup; one of the best live shows ever...too redundant for me after a few yrs, and I gave up on both of those bands.

First show I saw in the Atlanta Omni was Johny Van Zandt Band opening for Foghat opening for THE OUTLAWS. Back when it was red clay roads to Alpharetta and Atlanta was still Georgia. Some of those guys are still trying to pay off the loans on those trans ams and camaros I saw in the parking lot. GREEN GRASS AND HIGH TIDES.

Saw MTB around same time. They were freakin' great. Blackfoot opened. It's a Highway Song.

Then again, I saw the Danny Joe Brown Band (Molly Hatchet lead singer) open for The Kinks. He was not warmly received.

76' North East Tour? I caught them at the Beacon Theater NYC that year, scorcher. We stood on the arms of our seats for the entire show.
